[ well, he’s already digging out a few, mug options for them to choose from. ]

… Damn, they actually have almost everything. Powder, chocolates, marshmallows, mugs… [ what else? ] — Oh, right. Cream. Hang on that’s probably in the fridge.

[ unless this is where they get to experience true disappointment, tripping at the final hurdle. ]

Right! Milk and whipped cream.

...Probably want to sniff the milk first if they have it, since who even knows what the deal is with the dates here.

What do you think, the old fashioned stove-top method, or should we just microwave it?

We went this far to find the right stuff to make it, might as well go all in and stove-top it.

[ grabs a saucepan (with just a light ouch as it shocks him; he got VERY used to this a few weeks ago), pours in what looks like roughly two mugs' worth of milk, and throws it on the stove!

he does not make things that aren't instant very often, this could go badly. ]

...I have no idea how long we're supposed to leave this on, but hopefully it will be obvious when it's ready.

[ cool cool cool date has no clue either. well, maybe he has 50% more of a clue he can cook some things. ]

I know you don't want to burn it. But you don't want it to be cold either. Maybe until you see it start to bubble? Then turn the heat down.

That sounds reasonable. And just stir it once in a while, right?

[ all right, burner's on, he's got a spoon, we're rolling. he leans back against the counter within stirring distance. ]

So we're almost at the end of this, hm? ...Of course who knows what's going to happen after this party.

Yeah, that'll probably deal with the risk of burning for now.

[ he moves the supplies closer to the stove for easy reach, before hopping up on the counter so he can sit comfortable and make sure mephisto doesn't rich-boy-who-can't-cook-unless-it's-in-the-microwave ruin their cocoa. ]

We go back or we go where the others are, I guess. Feels like I haven't thought much about what's actually going to happen, I've just been focused on getting there in one piece.

I've been thinking about it entirely too much all along but have never gotten very far.

What do you make of some of those odd messages the other side has been sending?

Well, yeah. It's difficult to forget but... the logistics of it. The details. When you're thinking about whether you'll still have a chance by the end of the week? That eats up more of my focus.

In general? I think they're trying to be helpful. Or cause chaos. It sounds like there's more to Satan than we've been assuming though. He seemed... not too bad when I spoke to him the other week. Kinda wishing he'd made the party a costume party, more than acting ominous and trying to intimidate me.

If you've made it this far, I don't think you have much to worry about. Not until the party starts, anyway.

But it's true, everything I've been hearing about this Satan recently doesn't really square with the image we've had of him up until now.

[ although, yeah, that's definitely going to happen. kuranosuke has to have pickled his whole liver at this point. he taps his fingers against the back of mephisto's hand, idly. ]

Mm. The quality of the message got a bit weird when they talked about it.

Static when they talked about the fishing. Like, more than usual.

Also one message was just evil laughter and the sound of wind, so.

You think it was originally about something else and got edited to make him talk about fishing instead?

I think there was interference, yeah. It was all talking about fishing, maybe like a censor word?

[ hang on he's gonna. lean over and stir the milk himself. more stirring, minimal gossiping. ]

Hm, I was thinking it might have been some kind of code to try to get around censoring, but I suppose that's possible too. You didn't follow up with him on it?

[ —but he can wait a second for that answer, because hey, if date's going to lean right over him like that to get the spoon, he's going to reach up to cup his cheek and pull him into a brief kiss when he's done stirring. ]

[ he was half assuming mephisto was going to forget to stir the milk, honestly. what with talk of censorship, but-- he leans into that kiss for that brief moment, before leaning back enough to reply-- ]

If it's a code or cover up, then I can't really ask them "hey, what does that mean?". It'd just get censored and then they'd have to figure out a way around the censor's censor. [ which sounds like a Headache. ]

Well, no, you'd be a little more subtle about it than that. Say something about fishing back and see if they're expecting it or if they don't know why you're bringing it up.

Who's even censoring it, though, if we're starting to lean toward that idea that this Satan isn't really an enemy? What's the purpose of trying to scramble communication between our side and theirs if it's no longer a secret that they still exist somewhere?
