[he frowns a little at that and is about to say something, but then sips at his drink and conveiently forgets about his grudge against mephisto and only that. the frown vanishes.]
That wouldn't even be tripping at the finish line, it'd be, like, tripping at the awards ceremony.
Good. Now we just have to make sure our finale goes smoothly.
[ he sips his tea for a moment; whatever memory loss is going on here is pretty convenient. probably won't last once he brings this up, but it's providing a good opening to do so! ]
...In the interest of ensuring that, I feel like I should note that while I am a demon, I've always been on humanity's side. Hating me is all well and good — especially in front of the cameras! — but I do want it to be clear behind the scenes that I have no intention of doing anything to screw everyone over at the last minute.
that sure negates the memloss drink a bit. kuranosuke is frowning again.]
...okay, like. I hear you. But also - you realize how whack that sounds, right? Like, you killed one of my friends and framed one of my other friends for it. That's fucking shady, dude! Of course I'm gonna be suspicious of what else you might do.
Fair! That was only for the purpose of researching this place's mechanics, though, which is a moot point now. I just don't want misconceptions to cause any problems now that I've been begrudgingly designated a major player in this plan.
...You should really be careful with those memory loss drinks, by the way.
Kinda late to be researching mechanics, don't you think...? [a beat.] How'd you even get that video game thing anyway? Is that just something games do where you're from?
[he sighs. DEMONS.]
...it's fine. I'm getting the hell out of here tomorrow, and they don't have drinks like this back in Tokyo.
No, I'm afraid VR isn't that advanced in my Japan yet! It was my reward for saving everyone on our group trip a few weeks ago.
[ this is just a thing he does, apparently. saving people who would rather be saved by anyone else but him. ]
Anyway, no, that was the point at which it finally made sense to do so. Having two murders the week before with no details about the circumstances of the second case available to us [ thanks ryo ] threw a wrench into our earlier theories about outside manipulation... and by that point, it had been made clear to us that the "double dead" weren't suffering anything worse than we were, and that there was reason to suspect they'd be reuniting with us before long anyway. Recklessness isn't my style.
[ ...though he admittedly could have answered the important questions by just having tuuri do the murder without her actually taking the fall for it. oh well. ]
...kind of ironic that you used something you got for saving people to kill someone and frame another, huh?
[very funny but still, ironic.]
I guess that explains why you didn't actually get your own hands dirty there. [...] Have you, like... talked to the two of them about what happened at all?
I spoke briefly with each of them, but not really about that.
[ he was just kind of like "lmao wow you really just let filbo die there huh" to zelgadis, and... more cheerful than he should have been with tuuri because he'd just gotten his powers back and was excited. whoops. ]
I don't think they care that much about my rationale, though. Which, again, fair.
[ shrugs. ]
If either wants to ask, I'll gladly tell them... but otherwise, I don't know that there's much sense in rocking that boat at this point when they'll probably never have to see me again after tomorrow anyway.
[ ...neither will anyone else, obviously, but if they decide at the last minute that they object to this plan, he imagines they'll do so a lot more quietly than kuranosuke would. ]
[if it was him, he'd be shaking down mephisto for answers the second mephisto appeared on the dead's side, but - clearly that didn't happen with tuuri and kon. that's up to them, he supposes.
...but he's still a little mad about it, because when it comes down to it? he's a pretty emotional person. logically he understands, but that sure doesn't make it feel any better.]
God, it'd be so much easier to stay mad about this if you were more of a jerk.
At least you're not trying to justify it by saying you really needed a party invite and you saw a flier that there would only be twenty of them so you decided someone had to die.

That might be the first time I've heard that. Most seem to think I'm more than enough of one already!

[HE'S STILL SO SALTY ABOUT THAT]

That was really stupid, wasn't it?
[ he has no respect for bucky... though he still loves the firearm pun. ]
And the logic behind his choice of victim kind of falls apart with that as the motive.

[he will never stop being salty about murder though. never.]
