Yes, I'm sure it was asked with only the best of intentions.

My intentions aside, I've been told it can be quite therapeutic to share the details of an emotionally confusing past event with an objective third party.

... I was just thinking about some old comrades I had in the past.

I once led a group of... outcasts, of sorts. A few humans in the bunch, but most were beastmen, trolls, fish-men... those who didn't have a place in human society.

We were followers of a great sage. We'd travel from kingdom to kingdom to help those in need. While he healed the sick and wounded, we handled the rough jobs. Fending off bandits and monsters, procuring supplies... That sort of work.

That all sounds very noble!

I thought so too, at one time...

But that sage had a darker side, and there came a point where I could follow him no longer. I betrayed him, and he answered by sending my former comrades to pursue me.
