How is last night treating you today?

[Zel's sitting at a table with his face buried in his arms and an empty coffee cup next to him. He slowly lifts his head to look tiredly upward.]

Badly.

[ pulling out a chair on the other side of the table to take a seat across from him ]

Oof. I take it you don't attend events like that very often.

As a rule, I try to avoid any place with a crowd.

I never would have guessed!

[ he takes a sip of his coffee, rip if you thought he was giving this to you. ]

I can't say I've ever seen anyone get that distraught over kissing a hand before.

Did you just come here to mock me?

No, I came for coffee.

[ sip! ]

But I'm also curious about you. I'd thought at first glance you might have had some relation to the King of Earth, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

[hardrocklife]

[He sits up straight.]

... I was wondering about you, as well. If you have questions, I'll answer -- if you'll answer mine.

Oh? Have I been on your mind all along or only since last night?

[hardrocklife]

[He doesn't look amused.]

... I'd just like to know what you are, exactly.

[teufelshund]

Hm.

[ taking a looong sip of coffee ]

Have you heard of the Ba'al?

[god he wishes he had coffee.

he shakes his head.]

Well, that's what I am!

[... It's too early in the morning for this. (It's probably actually not.)]

... So what does that mean?

[teufelshund]

[ shrugs! ]

What does it mean to be a human, or an elf, or a cat?

[hardrocklife]

It means plenty.

At the very least, I'm fairly sure you're none of those things.

[ smiles and takes another sip ]

You can think of us as something akin to physical manifestations of elements of nature. There's the King of Earth, the King of Light, Water, and so on. My element is time.

[hardrocklife]

[There's a flicker of surprise in his eyes.]

Like an elemental spirit? I'm familiar with the concept... though we don't have any time spirits where I'm from.

[teufelshund]

Something like that!

[hardrocklife]

When you put it like that, it just sounds suspicious.

[teufelshund]

Well, it's not exactly correct, but without any other frame of reference, I don't think there would be much point in getting into all the metaphysical specifics.

[hardrocklife]

... Very well. I'll leave it at that.

I suppose you had questions of your own?

[teufelshund]

I'll throw the same one back at you. As I mentioned, I would usually expect any being of rock to be kin of Earth, but you don't look like any I'm familiar with. And, if last night is any indication, you seem to be rather self-conscious about it!
