[ they're both terrible at building boats. and yeah, while date could've just assumed there was a distinct goth vibe going on here now he Knows he keeps having moments of being like "oh right, yeah. generally that'd be a not human trait, huh?" ]
There's chaotic energy that keeps things interesting, and then there's whatever's in the water this week.
[ it was a bunch of clashing colors because he had his pink sunglasses on and wanted to see how well he could guess what the colors actually were when everything looked pink. he did not guess that well. ]
So long as that "whatever" isn't in this water.
[ he sets his glass down on the rock at the edge of the spring, then slips out of his yukata and gets in — though he keeps the towel around his waist for now. (and while it isn't overtly obvious, he is careful not to turn his back to date while getting in.)
ah. he leans back and closes his eyes for a moment. ]
[ he probably saw it. then again he didn’t do much more himself. who knew silly sunglasses could turn painting a boat into such an exciting activity? ]
If I start running around even remotely like Akira did, just knock me out and declare the place off limits. [ it’s the only way.
he isn’t really paying too much attention when mephisto actually gets into the hot spring. he’s too busy hatching a cunning plan — sort of. the clink of glass on stone is enough to remind him firstly that mephisto arrived with a drink, and secondly that his own drink had been cruelly(?) stolen only a few hours ago. ]
Oh, I’m aware. But I have payback to dish out first.
[ ……
he just grabs the drink and steals some of it. what goes around comes around. ]
[ mephisto opens his eyes again at the clink of the glass and looks up just in time to see that. wow?? it's not like he hadn't kind of expected it, considering everything, but still, rude. ]
It's good, but the fact you're drinking it's still kinda weird.
[ it tasting exactly like things you'd eat rather than drink throws him, just a little. but now he's had his very important revenge, date has an onsen to enjoy. ]
It still tastes like... what did you say it was? Strawberry and garlic ramen?
The main flavor is still ramune, the classic carbonated soft drink with the marble bottle opener and the light, refreshing taste of something that's supposed to be citrus! Strawberry milk is the secondary flavor, with only a slightly lingering spicy kick from the garlic ramen. It's an incredibly sophisticated recreation.
I'll take your word for it. These drinks might be better if you could tell it to stick to a flavour so other people could try it. Because right now I'm just taking your word for it that strawberry ramune -- which, yeah I can see that being fine -- with a spicy garlic kick is good.
[ same way that mephisto's just having to take his word for it that bonito and curry in a drink tastes great. ]
I think spicy drinks are underrated in general. If you haven't had a strawberry habañero margarita, you're missing out! Though admittedly you do sort of have to be in the mood for it.
I expect if you asked Blue or Malibu they could be persuaded to make one. If they're in a good enough mood. [ of course that means someone would be dead, which dampens the enjoyability of a cocktail date somewhat. ]
[ to be fair, i actually had date climb a statue because he'd had enough so. mood. ]
Good curry doesn't have to burn your mouth. And it doesn't have strawberry in-- usually, pretty sure it's been done somewhere at some point. [ i am remembering a really terrible looking instant curry that was pink that i saw online years ago. it WAS strawberry.
he accepts the drink and takes a sip. it's fine -- they've moved to a better place now. sharing drinks without there being a fight. character growth. ]
Wonder what that would taste like, better or worse than your spicy garlic strawberry?
[ he was about to offer his important thoughts on strawberry curry spice combinations, but after that, he ends up just giving an indignant huff instead. ]
I keep telling you, it's mostly original flavor ramune.
... See, that insistence is making me think they really messed something up when they didn't let you share flavours.
[ it feels pretty natural -- and nice, honestly -- to just lean into that hold. the warmth of the onsen's making him relaxed and boneless enough anyway. ]
Otherwise you just end up going in circles trying to prove why your weird and wonderful drink flavour actually tastes good. [ curry and bonito. sheesh. ]
[ slowly rubbing his side... this really is the body of a twink. ]
...Though I don't think I ever said a bad word about your curry drink. I'd try that in a heartbeat if I had the chance. Life is all about new and interesting experiences.

Did you build one this time?
[ he dips his toes — with those pointed black nails — into the water. ]
It was a lot, but I don't dislike that kind of chaotic energy... for the most part.
[ going to draw a line at having to personally dodge harpoons, though. ]
no subject
I helped. Intensely. Why, did you?
[ they're both terrible at building boats. and yeah, while date could've just assumed there was a distinct goth vibe going on here now he Knows he keeps having moments of being like "oh right, yeah. generally that'd be a not human trait, huh?" ]

You know it's even more relaxing in the spring.

[ cheers. he’s only had like a quarter, it’s fine. probably. ]
And now things feel even.
no subject
Yeah, sure. Even.
[ he grins back up at him. ]
Did it still taste like curry to you?

And everyone's happy.
[ the glass is set back down within mephisto's reach, and he thinks about the flavour. ]
Yeah. And bonito? Weird for a drink but I don't hate it.

[ grabbing the glass to take another sip for himself. ]
Mm... though I have to say the post-ramen ramune is even more refreshing in a steamy bath like this.

Habañero. In a cocktail?
[ he's thinking about it. ] ... Actually, I can kinda see that working. Like when you get chilli peppers in chocolate.

that just makes him laugh — he slumps sideways as he laughs, leaning against mephisto’s shoulder. ]
Uh huh. But would you like it more than your strawberry garlic ramune?
no subject
Impossible. The light and refreshing quality of the ramune against the backdrop of those other flavor notes is exactly what makes it so perfect!
